TBC Education Programs
Linda
Armstrong,
mother of five-time Tour de France champion, Lance Armstrong,
also believes in our mission. She is the acting Spokesperson
for the Texas SuperCyclist and SuperCollege Projects.
The
education part of our mission is primarily handled through
the Texas Bicycle Coalition Education Fund (TBCEF), a 501(c)(3)
non-profit organization. TBCEF does business as SuperCyclist.org
and information about our Texas SuperCollege Project can
be found at www.SuperCyclist.org.
Our vision for bicycle education includes non-cyclists as
well as cyclists. We believe that any effort that raises
the awareness of cycling in the general public is beneficial
to the safety and future of cycling. More importantly we
know that motorists who are exposed to a relatively small
amount of safety information about cycling tend to be more
aware of cyclists on the road.
Earth Share of Texas represents the Texas Bicycle Coalition
Education Fund in workplace payroll deduction plans throughout
Texas. For more information about how you can support the
Texas Bicycle Coalition Education Fund and other leading
environmental groups at your workplace, call 1-800-GREENTX,
or visit www.earthshare-texas.org.
Programs
for Cyclists
Texas SuperCollege Project:
The
Texas SuperCollege Project is designed to have student teachers
certified in the Texas SuperCyclist Project curriculum as
part of their teacher certification process. We will be
working with a group of universities to provide training
and material to programs that choose to install the program
in their education track.
Information about our Texas SuperCollege Project can be
found at www.SuperCyclist.org.
Programs for Non-Cyclists
Driver Training:
This program is designed to be used by Driver Training professionals
as they train new drivers. It will provide class-room and
student material to raise awareness of the special techniques
to interact with cyclists on the road. We will continue
to develop this program at a low level while applying for
grant funding.
Transit/Fleet Operator:
Based on the award-winning Capital Metropolitan Transit
Authority (Austin) transit operator safety training, this
program will include instructor guide, classroom presentation
and operator materials. We expect this program will be applicable
to school bus operators as well as other fleet operators,
such as USPS or FedEx.
