Cyclists
in Suits: Texas Bike Lobby Day
Monday, April 14, 2003
9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Texas State Capitol
Meeting Information

Remember
how much fun the last Cyclists in Suits Lobby Day was, back
in 2001? Well, if you missed it last time, now is your chance
to advance bicycle access, safety and education during this
legislative session.
The
Texas Bicycle Coalition will once again hold a briefing session
from 9am-10am to distribute
talking points and information packets for legislators --
and our famous neon bike pins! We will meet at The R.E.
Johnson Building, (one block North of
the Capitol) 1501 Congress Ave., Room 2 Central Room.
Arrive early to learn effective citizen lobbying techniques.
For
public parking there is a garage between 12th and 13th and
San Jacinto and Trinity. For a map of the area, including
parking and the REJ building, click
here .
At
10 a.m. it's off to the Capitol to visit all 181 offices
of state Senators and Representatives, so wear comfortable
shoes! [Note: If you would like to visit a specific office,
you will need to arrange a meeting individually beforehand.]
Plan
to arrive around 8:30 a.m. to give yourself plenty of time
for traffic and parking. We highly recommend you attend the
briefing session, but if you are unable to make it, we will
have a staff person outside of Representative Roberto Gutierrez's
office (Cap. 4S.04-Fourth Floor) throughout the day who
can direct you where to go.
Afterward,
a celebration Happy Hour is scheduled to meet after 5 pm at
Scholtz Garden at 1607 San Jacinto Blvd. in Austin,
within biking and walking distance from the Capitol.
Putting
together a powerful citizen lobby event is the perfect opportunity
for -- you guessed it! -- volunteers! If you are interested
helping out with information packet stuffing a day ahead (Sunday,
Apr. 13), volunteer! If you are able to help TBC get the word
out by forwarding Lobby Day email alerts, volunteer! You can
sign up to volunteer on the RSVP form.
