About Tour of Texas
Tour of Texas is an independent travel guide to seeing the state from Austin — the day trips, the drives, the rivers and the regions worth planning around.
What this site is
We write for the traveler already in or near Austin who wants to get out into the rest of Texas without turning the trip into a grind. That means the Hill Country first — it's an hour out the door — and then the longer runs south to the coast and west to Big Bend when there's time for them.
How it's written
Every recommendation here is our own, written in our own words. We don't copy anyone else's compilation, reprint a publisher's picks, or dress up a scraped list as a guide. When a fact comes from somewhere specific — a park, a transit operator, a tourism office — we point you to the source so you can confirm it before you go.
No pop-ups, no paywalls, no autoplay. Just clear travel writing, kept current.
Who publishes it
Tour of Texas is part of the WholeTech Network, an independent Austin publisher that has been building websites since 1996. The network spans a hundred-plus sites, each focused on one subject, all run from a single server.
